At least 1,400 children were sexually exploited in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013 while agencies suppressed reports, partly out of fear of appearing racist. Professor Alexis Jay's independent inquiry, commissioned in October 2013, published its findings on August 26, 2014. A second inquiry led by Louise Casey, examining the council's own governance and culture, followed in February 2015.
